  9. The information given in this document is required 
  10. to configure SignOn! properly.

  15. SignOn! is a multiple user administration program for Windows. In the 
  16. shareware version you may assign up to 3 user. They can only access their 
  17. individual applications if they identify themselves with their user ID and 
  18. password.
  19. Each access to Windows is recorded in a log file.
  20. You can assign 3 applications per user.
  21. At the beginning of each session the AutoRun-applications will be executed.
  22.  
  23. The administrator job is to: 
  24.  
  25.         - create user
  26.         - delete user
  27.         - assign applications for the users
  28.         - assign AutoRun applications
  29.  
  30. This program is especially useful for a family-computer where the kids are
  31. also allowed to work with. So you can ensure that your children run only
  32. the applications they are supposed to instea of e.g. deleting files.

  34. In the registered version you may assign up to:
  35.     - 255 users
  36.     - 255 applications per user
  37.     - 255 AutoRun applications

  45. 1.) Installation
  46. ================

  48. After you have completet installation you have to modify your SYSTEM.INI
  49. file.
  50. First, backup your SYSTEM.INI.
  51. Then look in the file for the 'shell=' line.
  52.  
  53. Modify the line like this:
  54.         shell=[Drive:\SignOn!-Directory\]WinSgnOn.EXE
  55.  
  56. Example: shell=C:\WinSgnOn\WinSgnOn.EXE
  57.  
  58. To put he changes into effect you have to restart Windows.

  62. 2.) The first Sign-On
  63. =====================
  64.  
  65. If you want to run applications you have to log onto SignOn! for Windows.
  66.  
  67. Click on the red key.
  68.  
  69. A dialog-box will appear where you have to enter the following data:
  70.  
  71.             User-ID:     ADMIN
  72.             Password:    NEW      
  73.                     (Caution: CAPITAL LETTERS!!)
  74.  
  75. Now you will be able to access the administrator menu.
  76.  
  77. The first thing you should do is to change the password to make sure that
  78. nobody who reads this document is able to access your system.
  79.  
  80. Select 'Change Password' in the user menu. Enter user ID (ADMIN), the
  81. old password (NEW) and twice your new password.

  85. 3.) Important Administrator-Functions (Menu Administration)

  89. CREATE USER

  92. Use this command to create a new user.
  93.  
  94. You have to enter the user-ID and the name of the user.
  95. The ID may consist of up to 8 characters.
  96.  
  97. If you check the administrator-flag you will grant the user access to any
  98. SignOn! menus. That means he may also delete your ID or re-assign his own
  99. file-access-rights.
  100.  
  101. Check the 'User may exit Windows'-flag if you wnat to allow the user to
  102. leave Windows.

  104. Then enter the time when the user may start logging onto the system.
  105. Caution: Use 24h-format (00-23)
  106.  
  107. The password of the new user is 'NEW'. The user should change it when
  108. he logs on.

  116. 4.) Access Log
  117. ===============
  118.  
  119. Each access to SignOn! is recorded in the WinSgnOn.LOG-file in the
  120. following format:
  121.  
  122.             1. line: User ID
  123.             2. line: date
  124.             3. line: time
  125.  
  126. The file should be deleted, if it gets too big.

  128. To delete the file run the File Manager of Windows, click on the 
  129. WINSGNON.LOG-file and hit the DEL-key.

  132. 5.) IMPORTANT INFORMATION
  133. =========================

  135. You may deactivate SignOn! at any time if you change the 'shell='-line
  136. in the SYSTEM.INI-file back to 'shell=progman.exe'. 
  137. Result: Windows loads the Program Manager instead of SignOn! for Windows
  138.

  140. CAUTION:
  141. ========
  142. CLOSE ALL APPLICATIONS YOU HAVE OPENED BEFORE SIGNING OFF!!!
  143. Reason: The next user may continue using them though he is not entitled to.
